At a time when many employees have become accustomed to working from home, employers are recognizing the importance of providing modern and ergonomic spaces adapted to new ways of working. Banque Populaire Rives de Paris, a 100+ year-old banking cooperative with more than 9.5 million customers throughout France, has established a model to follow for other companies transitioning to flexible office models.

After successfully implementing hybrid working arrangements during Covid, Banque Populaire Rives de Paris saw an opportunity to implement both flexible office and ergonomic principles into the design of their new headquarters location – a 16,000 square-meter building steeped in history that had hosted iconic companies including Air France and Le Monde.

While the project was initiated as a move to a new headquarters building, it also represented a complete transformation of Banque Populaire’s working environment. The transition to a more flexible office model required the collaboration of all the company’s departments to select ergonomic equipment capable of adapting to all employees. A working group made up of employees, ergonomists, managers and leadership was established to set expectations and trial products including desks, work chairs, and monitor mounts.

In the monitor mount category, the working group tested various solutions for ease of movement, simplicity and speed of installation, and stability. The monitor mounts had to be adaptable enough to adjust to the wide variety of workstations the company was planning to deploy for the new space, including solo bench type workstations, fixed-height and adjustable desks, canopy type workstations, and manager-level spaces. As a result, Ergotron TRACE™ Single and Dual Monitor Mounts were selected to provide a truly ergonomic environment that could adapt to the individual worker’s needs for all 700 workstations.

Already certified Lucie 26000 for its commitment to environmental protection and working conditions, the cooperative and regional bank is aiming for additional HQE Sustainable Building, Breeam and Osmoz certifications to comply with the requirements of its CSR policy.

L’Oréal, one of the top global beauty companies, opened new headquarters locations in Madrid and Lisbon with a focus on creating unique employee-focused work environments. In Madrid, the 20,000-square-meter building with a capacity for more than 2,046 employees is in the heart of MADBit, a new innovation district. They channeled that spirit of innovation in the office design with designated areas following three key themes: Go Flex, Go Tech and Go Well.

Within this work ecosystem, each space adapts to specific employee needs and activities. Employees can choose the best place for their work versus adjusting their environment for the task.

L’Oréal designed the new headquarters to meet top environmental sustainability and employee well-being designations, including the LEED® Platinum certification and the WELL Building Standard™. Selecting a like-mind partner to outfit their space was critical. Ergotron’s sustainability initiatives aligned closely with L’Oréal’s goals, including:

Products comply with all international environmental regulations related to design, manufacturing and packaging

L’Oréal chose to work with Ergotron to help promote employee well-being and efficiency. They selected the LX Desk Monitor Arm for the new workstations to provide full monitor movement, easy adjustment and improved ergonomics. The Berlin housing association Gewobag is one of the largest property companies in Germany. The company decided to transform its headquarters in the Berlin-Mitte district into an innovative “workplace of the future”. Employee requirements were determined in collaboration with the works council and by considering feedback from focus group surveys. The emphasis was on flexibility, communication, interpersonal contact, concentration and relaxation. The aim was to create a working environment where everyone feels comfortable—employees should be able to decide where and how they want to work in the office.

In the current emergency department, clinicians roll mobile medical carts between rooms or return to a central desk space to complete electronic patient records (EPR). This creates extra steps for clinicians and reduces time spent with patients. With the new design, they needed a workstation that could:

The implementation involved a pilot phase on the fifth floor, which served as the “workplace of the future”. A variety of working options were available there, with the opportunity for employees to choose different workstations. The company selected monitor arms from Ergotron for the fully equipped workstation desks. The HX Monitor Arm was compatible with the 38-inch monitors, while also meeting the specific technical desk requirements. Project manager Ariana Kinney explains: “Flexibility and ease of use were key criteria for us when selecting the monitor arms. The collaboration with Ergotron offered the best solution to meet the equipment requirements for the workstations.”

Feedback from employees was consistently positive, and survey results confirmed approval of the new technological solutions.

Following the successful pilot phase, this new work concept was rolled out throughout the company. The flexible workplace design and ergonomic equipment have proven their worth and employees are actively making the most of the new opportunities available to them. The new working areas can now be customised and adapted according to the situation and employee preference.

This approach promotes an active workplace design that puts people at the centre and supports employees with flexible working. When choosing the equipment, the focus was on excellent quality and corresponding durability.

The project, which received the HR Excellence Award 2022 in the New Work category, illustrates the transformation process that achieved a modern, adaptable working environment for a municipal company in Berlin. The collaboration with Ergotron played a crucial role in ensuring that workstations meet employees’ ergonomic requirements in every regard.
